The focus of this group is to dispense information on the
importance of human and animal bonding which can be spiritually,
emotionally and physically uplifting. As an information resource
center, they help establish guidelines for animal visitation
programs to such places as nursing homes, handicap clinics
and hospitals. They founded the Pet Partners program in which
pet owners take their pets
to visit lonely and/or disabled people. Nominations are being
accepted until June 30, 2000 for Beyond Limits Therapy and
Service Animal Awards sponsored in conjunction with Purina.
Winners receive $500.

This group is primarily concerned with preventing animal exploitation
and abuse. They coordinate demonstrations against animal abuse
in institutions, formulate new laws protecting animals, take
up legal issues that address animal rights and sponsor educational
conferences.

Concerned with inhumane animal treatment, In Defense of Animals
is committed to protecting wildlife, promoting non-animal
research and taking legal action to assist in animal rights
issues. They frequently organize demonstrations at institutions
that use animals for research experimentation and attempt
to rescue animals exploited in this manner. They also publish
a quarterly newsletter on animal rights and maintain an animal
abuse hot line.

As an umbrella organization representing different agencies
and individuals, this group strives to educate the public
about animal cruelty prevention and basic animal care and
training. They work to raise the standard of quality at many
shelters and advocate reducing the use of euthanasia by finding
better alternatives. Concerned about protecting both wild
and domestic animals, they take an active role in lobbying
for new animal rights legislation, oversee the treatment of
animals used in television and film and provide educational
programs.

Anti-Vivisection Society

This organization greatly opposes all practices of vivisection
(cutting open or operating on live animals, usually under
anesthesia, for the purpose of medical experimentation). They
publish pamphlets educating the public about animal vivisection
and use their funds to sponsor research on vivisection alternatives.
