Travel is the most sought-after topic on
the World Wide Web? Wherever you want to go, whatever you
want to know, it's there somewhere on the Internet: the cheap
fares, the hard-to-find information, the time-saving services.
If you have a flair for writing, you have a good chance of
paying for your travels by selling your experience, unusual
story, photos, etc., to publications and newspapers that are
looking for a new point of view about a different place. Travel
is one of the biggest industries in today's world. People
are hungry to know about new and interesting places and learn
about the experiences of others in those places. Your point
of view is a new point of view, even if the places you've
visited have been written about many times before. In addition
to the many consumer-oriented magazines and newsletters that
specialize in travel, there are hundreds of clubs, community
groups, and organizations that will pay to hear lectures and
see slides and photos about someone's adventures.
There are also many publications that are
not specifically aimed toward travelers, but that accept travel
articles and columns because it is a subject of interest to
most readers. These include "women's" magazines, sports-oriented
magazines, general-interest magazines and national newspapers,
mature adult magazines, club and organization newsletters,
and magazines focusing on specific metropolitan areas, such
as Los Angeles magazine, Dallas, California, Arizona Living,
etc. Daily and weekly newspapers also welcome features about
new and interesting places to travel and points of interest.
Many newspapers are now on-line with one of the most popular
features being the travel section.

Becoming a travel writer with the goal of
traveling for free can be either a full- or part-time career.
Obviously, it is something that takes some practice (writing,
speaking, or taking photos) and requires a commitment to learning
the markets in which you want to sell your travel stories.
But it is a great opportunity to pay for your travels by sharing
your personal experiences. To learn more about becoming a
travel writer, check for adult education classes at your local
community college, high school, or adult learning center.
Often they offer courses in becoming a travel writer taught
by experts who have done it for many years.
