| This
is a college based program, meaning the participating college
receives from the federal government a set amount of funds to
distribute. Although FSEOGs are designed to supplement other
sources of financial aid for students who qualify for additional
assistance, there is no guarantee that a school will receive
enough money to award all eligible students. Therefore, FSEOGs
are very competitive and desirable. It is important that students
apply for a FSEOG early (check with your school for the deadline)
so as not to lose their chance for these funds/grants range
from $100 up to $4,000 per year to individual students.
Some colleges may award FSEOGs to students
who are enrolled on a less than half-time basis. How much
aid you receive is dependent on your financial need (which
generally must be exceptional) and otter financial aid you
will be receiving. Receivers of Pell Grants are given first
priority in the awarding of FSEOG grants. As with other grants,
the money does not have to be repaid.
If you receive a FSEOG, your school will
credit the funds to your account, pay you directly or use
a combination of these methods. Students must be paid at least
once per term, or if traditional terms (semester, trimester,
quarters) are not used, they must be paid by the school at
least twice during the academic year.
